Srbijavoz, Serbia’s national passenger railway operator, has signed a contract with the Spanish company CAF for the procurement of 30 Civity electric multiple units (EMUs), which will be used in Belgrade’s commuter rail network, BG Voz.
The contract is worth more than €300 million and includes full maintenance for a period of two years.
The Civity trains will be delivered in a three-car configuration, constructed from lightweight aluminium. They are designed for speeds of up to 120 km/h and can accommodate up to 546 passengers, including 204 seated passengers. Each train will feature six multipurpose areas designed to carry up to 18 bicycles.
The new trains will operate on the Belgrade urban railway network, which consists of 35 stations across four main and three auxiliary lines. This procurement represents a major upgrade to Belgrade’s railway fleet and marks the second significant contract for CAF in Serbia, following the City of Belgrade’s purchase of 30 CAF trams in 2009.
