Montenegro Purchases Three New Trains

Montenegro Railways (ŽPCG) and the Swiss company Stadler have signed a contract for the delivery of three new four-car electric FLIRT trains.

The new vehicles will make a significant contribution to the modernisation of passenger rail transport in Montenegro and will provide long-term improvements in passenger comfort, safety, and the attractiveness of public transport. The new FLIRT trains are based on Stadler’s proven platform, which is already successfully operating in several European countries, including Serbia and Slovenia. The trains for Montenegro will be largely identical to those already operating in Serbia, enabling, for the first time, the use of modern electric multiple units in cross-border rail services between the two countries.

With this procurement, Montenegro is taking another important step towards modern, sustainable, and European mobility. The trains will be specially adapted to the requirements of the Montenegrin railway network and will feature a unique design reflecting the national identity and colours of Montenegro. The project is being financed with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
