HŽ Passenger Transport, Croatia’s national railway operator deployed its first battery train, marking an important milestone towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly railway transport.
Croatian Battery-powered train is developed by Končar – Elektroindustrija, Croatian electrical, transport and energy company based in Zagreb. Train is developed as a part of the project Application of Green Technologies in Rail Passenger Transport, financed through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan 2021-2026. The project also includes construction of six charging stations along the routes the battery train will operate on. Total value of the project is 17.1 million EUR, of which 13.3 million is financed through the NRRP.
The battery train designed and produced by Koncar has a capacity of 113 seats and 114 standing places. It is designed to operate on non-electrified lines in Croatia, with maximum speeds of 120 km/h, with maximum charging time of 30 minutes.
